Alan J. Ruby, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Associated Retinal Consultants, serving patients in southeast Michigan. He specializes in vitreoretinal diseases and has a special interest in diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
Dr. Ruby earned his undergraduate and medical degree with high honors from the University of Michigan. In his residency he served as Chief Resident of the Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University. He was a Heed Fellow during his retinal fellowship training at Washington University. Dr. Ruby is currently Clinical Assistant Professor of Biomedical Science at Oakland University.
He is actively involved in a wide array of both basic science and clinical vitreoretinal research studies, and currently serves as principal investigator for multiple NEI studies.
Dr. Ruby has been named to The Best Doctors in America, including a 2025 nomination in Newsweek for America’s Leading Doctors and is actively involved in fellow and resident education.
